Lifeguard
Position Summary
The Chagrin Valley Recreation Center is seeking responsible, safety-focused individuals to join our aquatics team as Summer Lifeguards. Lifeguards ensure the safety of all patrons by preventing accidents, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a welcoming and secure pool environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain constant surveillance of assigned pool areas
- Enforce pool rules and safety regulations courteously and consistently
- Respond quickly and effectively to aquatic and non-aquatic emergencies
- Perform water rescues, first aid, CPR, and AED use as needed
- Conduct routine safety checks of pool facilities and equipment
- Assist with opening and closing procedures for the pool
- Provide excellent customer service to members and guests
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and fellow lifeguards
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 15
- Current Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent)
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
- Ability to pass a pre-employment swim and skills test
- Strong attention to detail and ability to remain alert for extended periods
- Dependable, punctual, and professional demeanor
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior lifeguarding or aquatic experience
- Experience working with children and families
- Availability for flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to swim continuously and perform rescues in deep and shallow water
- Ability to lift, carry, and assist patrons as required during emergencies
- Ability to work outdoors and indoors in varying weather and humidity conditions
Schedule & Duration
- Seasonal summer position (approximately May-June)
- Part-time hours; flexible scheduling available

Summer Camp Counselor
Position Summary
The Chagrin Valley Recreation Center is seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and energetic individuals to serve as Summer Camp Counselors. Camp Counselors are responsible for creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment for campers while leading activities, supervising daily routines, and serving as positive role models.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and ensure the safety of campers at all times
- Lead and participate in age-appropriate games, sports, arts and crafts, and recreational activities
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful camp environment
- Assist with planning and organizing daily camp schedules and special events
- Maintain accurate attendance and incident reports as required
- Enforce camp rules and behavior guidelines consistently and fairly
- Communicate effectively with fellow counselors, supervisors, and parents
- Provide basic first aid and respond appropriately to emergencies
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and maintenance of camp spaces and equipment
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 16
- High school diploma or currently enrolled student preferred
- Experience working with children in a camp, recreational, or educational setting preferred
- Ability to lead groups and manage camper behavior positively
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Dependable, punctual, and enthusiastic attitude
Preferred Qualifications
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)
- Background in sports, arts, education, or recreation
- Previous summer camp or youth program experience
Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively participate in camp activities, including standing, walking, running, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Schedule & Duration
- Seasonal summer position June-August along with meetings in May
- Full-time or part-time hours available
- Monday–Friday availability required; occasional special events

Concessions / Front Gate Attendant
Position Summary
The Chagrin Valley Recreation Center is seeking friendly, dependable, and customer-focused individuals to serve as Concessions / Front Gate Attendants. This role is responsible for providing excellent customer service to members and guests while managing admissions, concessions sales, and maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming facility environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet members and guests in a friendly and professional manner
- Manage front gate admissions, check-ins, wristbands, and daily passes
- Handle cash and electronic transactions accurately
- Operate concession stand equipment and prepare food and beverages according to guidelines
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of concession and front gate areas
- Monitor facility entry and exit to ensure compliance with policies
- Answer basic questions regarding facility rules, programs, and schedules
- Restock concession supplies and notify supervisors of inventory needs
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 14
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to handle cash responsibly and accurately
- Dependable, punctual, and professional appearance
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous customer service, cashier, or food service experience
- Experience working in a recreational or community facility
- Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to work indoors and/or outdoors in varying weather conditions
Schedule & Duration

Swim Lesson Instructor (Weekday Mornings)
Position Summary
The Chagrin Valley Recreation Center is seeking enthusiastic, patient, and safety-conscious individuals to serve as Swim Lesson Instructors for weekday morning programs. Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching swim skills to participants of various ages and abilities while promoting water safety in a positive, supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruct swim lessons following established curriculum and safety guidelines
- Teach water safety, swim strokes, and age-appropriate aquatic skills
- Provide clear instruction, encouragement, and constructive feedback to participants
- Ensure the safety of all swimmers during lessons
- Maintain accurate attendance and progress records
- Communicate professionally with parents/guardians regarding swimmer progress
- Set up and break down lesson equipment
- Work collaboratively with lifeguards and aquatics staff
- Enforce pool rules and facility policies consistently
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 15
- Current Swim Instructor Certification (e.g., Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or equivalent) preferred
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong communication and teaching skills
- Reliable weekday morning availability
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous swim instruction or teaching experience
- Experience working with children and/or adults in a recreational setting
- Lifeguard certification
Physical Requirements
- Ability to demonstrate swim skills and assist participants in the water
- Ability to stand, walk, and move in and around the pool deck for extended periods
- Ability to work in a warm, humid pool environment
Schedule & Duration
- Weekday mornings between 9am and 12pm
