Dear Members & Friends of The Rec,It’s your Rec. Since the pool opened in 1937 and the Rec Council was formed in1943, the Rec has relied on countless volunteers. It takes more than a director and some lifeguards to put together all the programming and ensure that all the events and administration go smoothly for all members. Those volunteers recognize that the Rec is more than a pool and membership means more than paying a fee.In that spirit, we turn to you: past, present, and future members of the Rec, to step forward and participate in the Rec’s many activities.Have a special skill or passion? Maybe there’s a way you can support the Rec. Not sure how you can help? Most jobs require little more than enthusiasm. Like managing crowds or processing payments? You can help with registration. Like serving drinks or pushing raffle tickets? You can help with Back the Rec. Like raking leaves and planting flowers? You can help with spring cleaning and beautification. Like herding children or operating a stop watch? You can help with swim meets and the Invitational. To get started, just look for notices in Rec emails and Facebook posts and then sign-up. And bring a friend. The Rec is more fun with friends.Won’t have time to volunteer this summer? That’s okay; we’d still love to see you at the pool. Being part of the fun at the pool is also a way of contributing. At its core, the Rec is about seeing old friends and making new ones. Volunteering for the Rec is just another way to connect with friends and contribute to what keeps the Rec going and makes the Chagrin Valley special. We get from the Rec what we put into it. Make the most of your membership at your Rec and join the fun as a member and a volunteer.See you at the pool,Michael GarveyRec Chair Emeritus
